It is with heavy hearts that the family of Kenneth Dale Bowes announce his unexpected passing on July 15, 2025.
Dale was born on July 27, 1962 in Maryfield, SK, the first child of Warren and Mary Bowes. He resided in Maryfield until moving to Wawota and then Regina in 1971. Upon completion of high school, Dale started working at the Shoeshine Shop in the Hotel Saskatchewan, ultimately becoming the owner.
Dale was a true craftsman and took pride in his work. He became friends with many clients who acknowledged his hard work, attention to detail and genuine caring personality. In his 46 years at Hotel Saskatchewan, Dale became a staple there and was quite likely the last full time shoeshiner in the province. In an article in 2019, Dale said “I guess when I’m done that’s it. Sad, but true.”
Dale was an avid Rider fan and was proud to tell everyone that Rider legend George Reed was one of his best customers. Dale attended games and had an impressive collection of Rider gear and memorabilia.
Dale loved animals and because of his gentle nature they loved him. Dale did not always have an easy life but he made his own way and walked his own path. He had a kind heart, was loved and will be missed by all who knew him.
Dale is predeceased by his grandparents and his father Warren. His aunt and uncle Allison & Tom Renwick and Uncle David (Bud) Bowes.
Dale is survived by his mother, Mary and brothers Alan and Kevin. His sister Karen (Brian) Bonkowski and their daughters Jordan (Joel) Watson and Rylie Bonkowski, as well as great niece Isla Watson. His aunt Norine (Don) Morrison and cousins Nathan (Denise), Donnelyn (Adam) and Kieran Morrison, Bronwyn (Justin) Bennett, Jeff Bowes, Kelly (Bruce) Wilton, Kim (David) Duke and Scott (Sharon) Renwick as well as good friends Brent and Corey Temple.
Until we meet again, may all your rags “snap”, may all your brushes be horse hair and may you keep “shining” on ❤️
A come and go celebration of Dale’s life is planned for Friday, September 5th from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m., generously hosted by the Hotel Saskatchewan in the Saskatchewan Suite.
