Derek Stanley Neil

Derek Stanley Neil passed away on April 30, 2025, at the age of 63.

Derek was born in Ayr, Scotland, 63 years ago. The Neil family immigrated to Canada in 1965 with an Elkhound (Inar) and a nanny (Margaret Wood). The Neil family settled in Carlyle, SK. Derek was 3 years old, and his brother, Russell was 5 years old.

Derek graduated from high school in Carlyle and worked for the local ambulance after graduation. He went to Calgary and completed the two-year diploma program at SAIT to become a chef. Derek then moved to Vancouver and worked as a chef for one year. He later moved back to Regina, where he spent the rest of his adult life.

Derek worked as a chef at Thomas Cook on Albert Street for many years. In 2017, he moved in with his mother, Chris, as a caregiver until 2022.

Derek was quiet and a bit of a loner, with a dry sense of humor. He was a regular patron of the Regina Public Library. He loved playing games, completing puzzles, and working on crossword books.

Derek will be sadly missed.
