The family of Celine “Cindy” Farley (née Weber), are heartbroken to share news of her sudden passing.
Cindy was born 22 August 1945, to Bill and Agnes Weber, the fourth of eleven children, and grew up on the family farm near Quinton, Saskatchewan. She was the family tomboy—happiest running around with her brothers, stirring up mischief, rather than minding younger siblings.
After graduating, Cindy moved to Regina, where she met and married Lyle Farley. Together, they built a warm and loving home in Balgonie and raised two children, Cory and Terri (Lamb).
Cindy spent much of her career in administration and accounting for local businesses, but her love of fitness led her to work as a lifeguard and fitness instructor at the YWCA in Regina and in Balgonie during the 1980s.
Life threw her a challenge in the 1990s when she was diagnosed with lupus. True to her resilient nature, Cindy didn’t let it slow her down—she found a new passion in running. Her first marathon was the Disney Marathon, completed as part of the Saskatchewan Arthritis Society. From then on, she was hooked. She ran in many places in Western Canada and in the USA. She ran the Queen City Marathon every year, starting in 2002 and finishing her 10K this fall. After turning 80, she agreed that maybe it was time to switch to the 5K.
Her adventurous streak didn’t stop there. Cindy was a dedicated dragon boat paddler, often racing on multiple teams and soaking up the energy of the festivals.
When she “retired,” Cindy turned to another love: books. She became the town librarian in Balgonie, a role she cherished. Nothing made her happier than seeing kids walk through the library doors—those moments were the highlight of her week.
Quiet by nature, Cindy’s stoic strength was admired by her family, most of whom never met a silence they couldn’t fill. But her greatest joy was her grandchildren. Whether she was cheering Elizabeth at volleyball, watching Cooper and Brock on the ice, listening to Hunter play clarinet, hanging with Taylor as he finished his homework, or marveling as little Jones took his first steps, Cindy’s pride was unmistakable.
Cindy is predeceased by her brothers Ron, Butch, and Wilf; daughter-in-law Sara. She leaves behind her husband Lyle; children Cory (Morgaine) and Terri (Shawn); grandchildren Elizabeth, Taylor, Hunter, Xander, Cooper, Brock, and Jones; siblings Marie-Ann, Dick, Helen, Lorraine, Jane, Kathy, and Eileen; and a big, loud, loving family of over 29 nieces and nephews plus all their children.
She will be remembered for her quiet strength, her zest for life, and the countless ways she touched her family and community.
In lieu of flowers donations can be made to YWCA Regina or Lupus Canada in Cindy’s memory, or lace-up your sneakers and register for the next race.
Funeral Service: St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, 302 King Street, Balgonie — Tuesday 4 November at 10:30am, lunch to follow.
Please join the family for lunch after the service.
